Ting Sling Seatbelt Hammock

Posted on July 26, 2010 by Sandra  |  Leave A Comment...

As you probably already know, I am obsessed with all things seatbelt. Here is a post I made last fall about my seatbelt purse and the seatbelt chairs I love by J Persing.

But it gets better - designer Inghua Ting has a seatbelt hammock that is awesome! They are all recycled seatbelts - the hammock’s seat belts are all end of line — that is, they were made for vehicles that are either no longer in production or have changed their safety specifications.

Ms. Ting says she has lately been receiving plenty of lime-green belts from a factory that had intended them for use in British ambulances. She also has a steady supply of bright orange belts, courtesy of a manufacturer that made them for tractors and other heavy-duty machines.

You can find the hammocks online at BranchHome.com.

About the Ting Sling:

Designed with the professional practitioner of the relaxation arts in mind, this handmade hammock is as comfortable to curl up in as it is cool to look at. Woven from end-of-the line seat belt webbing otherwise destined for the landfill, Sling is durable, weather-resistant, and the most stylish thing to swing between two trees since Tarzan hung up his loincloth. Mounting hardware and rope are included for easily adjustable installation. Sling is is available in your choice of six webbing colors.

About the designer: Founded by Royal College of Art graduate Inghua Ting, TING is motivated by the challenge of producing luxurious, modern designs that are innovative, functional, and — most importantly — sustainable. With a goal of producing high quality products with a minimal environmental impact, TING strives to maintain a zero carbon footprint while placing an emphasis on social and ethical responsibility. Fittingly for a company whose creations are made of reclaimed seat belt material, everyone in TING's London studio bikes to work.

Eminem and Rihanna Duet

I rarely listen to the radio anymore but I just happened to be listening to it the other day when the new Rihanna and Eminem duet played. It is a really sad song but I love it!

It is called "I love the way you lie" and you can hear it on Eminem's MySpace page here.

Update your GPS for summer!

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of NAVTEQ. All opinions are 100% mine.

Hey guys, I just found out that there is a site where you can update the map information for most models of GPS like the one you might use this summer on your vacation. The site is www.MapUpdateMonth.com, and all you have to do is choose your country from the map, then choose your GPS model and buy the map update.

Unfortunately for me my GPS is so old that it doesn't accept map updates and because of that we have had some really crazy experiences on strange back roads that we could have avoided. I know you remember my story about Highway 32 on our way out of Gatlinburg, Tennessee when we had no cell service and the route our GPS had us on did not look like it was going to get us where we needed to go.

Maybe you remember how we got lost cutting through Escalante National Monument? The problem there was that the road was washed out and our GPS didn't know of an alternate route. Again we didn't have cell service so we couldn't have looked up another route if we wanted to but luckily we had a map book, you know one of those paper things, as a backup.

That's not the only two times we had trouble either, on our last road trip we were trying to find our campground just outside of Bar Harbor, Maine and our GPS didn't know the location so we guessed. Once again we didn't have cell service and we had to rely on a cartoonish map of Acadia National Park to hunt down our campground and ended up with a broken windshield when we would have been setting up our tent if we had only known where to turn.

I know you guys want to enjoy your trips without having to worry about where you are going, so go to www.MapUpdateMonth.com and update your map. I will be upgrading mine with a new GPS unit soon and I am going to make sure that it is one that I can update update through this site!
