After leaving Skagway we headed to the Hubbard Glacier. The glacier itself is 6 miles across at the face and it is one of the glaciers in Alaska that is still growing.
It is incredible to be at the face of this glacier and hear all of the loud cracking and popping of the ice, and it was even more fun to watch massive chunks of ice fall off of the glacier! Here is a series of photos I was able to get as we watched our second block of ice fall from the glacier.
Of course we have to have the self portrait! (One day we'll plan a seminar on this technique!)
As we approached the Hubbard it got colder and colder. You can almost see the cold in the air...
This is a close-up of the glacier. It is really awesome up close!
And because we were at the end of the glacier we had to try to see as far down the glacier as we could. It wasn't 6 miles by any means.
