There are a few places to pull over and see the view along the road through the Island in the Sky. And it is an incredible view indeed.
There are also hiking trails from some of the parking lots, and you should not be surprised to find yourself alone along the trails because Canyonlands is not one of the most visited parks in the National Park collection. But that makes it even better because you feel as if you have the entire place to yourself!
This was our day to visit the park, just us (and maybe the other car we saw along the way) but overall there were very few people in the park at all.
And at the end of the Island in the Sky is Grand View Point, and it lives up to every bit of it's name.
From here you can see the Colorado River and the Green River and the results of their hard work.
It was a long drive to get to Grand View Point from the entrance to the park but seeing as we only had the one evening at Canyonlands and we wanted to see as much as possible I think we did pretty well.
