Grand Canyon South Rim

Grand Canyon South Rim

September 16, 2008 ยท Chris

You may think that you have seen a canyon, and you may not believe that something could be bigger than belief until you see the Grand Canyon for the first time. And it is not anywhere near the sign that marks the entrance to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Which is what we discovered as we drove for around 30 minutes, getting a quick glimpse of parts of the canyon from the road before we found the first overlook and our first view of the Grand Canyon.

To give you a little perspective, the floor of the canyon is about a mile below the rim and that is the Colorado River in the distance. You can only imagine what the first settlers thought as they were heading West and came to the edge of something like this. And it is still just as amazing today.

If you only get to see this view you won't be disappointed, but there is much more to the canyon and you have to be prepared because although it is hot during the day the temperatures at night drop to the mid 50's which is great for camping which is what we did.
