Bridgeport, Connecticut

July 7, 2016 · Chris

As we left the Bass Pro we spotted a float with circus animals on it. Then another float full of people. We decided to look it up, obviously there was some sort of parade today and it shouldn't be too hard to find. Well it wasn't, we discovered the reason for the parade… Bridgeport, Connecticut was the home of P.T. Barnum and this was a parade to celebrate him! It's amazing what you can learn on random road trips if you just pay attention to the little things going on in the small towns that you pass through.

PT Barnum wasn't just a showman and the founder of the Barnum & Bailey Circus but he served two terms in the Connecticut Legislature and spoke before congress at the passing of the Thirteenth Amendment to the Constitution. This parade was to celebrate his impact on the community and although we didn't get to see the parade, we did get to see a few floats and learn some fun facts because of it!
